Can't Connect Softphone to Switchvox SMB

Postby DwightIVD » Sun Sep 26, 2010 9:41 am

I am testing Swichvox SMB running on a VM. I'm trying to register a softphone (X-Lite) but can't get it to register. All machines are behind a D-Link DIR-655 on the same network. I've tried Mac and Windows version of X-Lite, and even Bria for the iphone. I get a 403 error from the iphone. I can reach the admin console and log into the extensions from a browser on all devices. I've tried dropping the firewall on the machine hosting the VM. I've also port forwarded UDP 5060 to 192.168.2.1, which is the address of the Switchvox VM. The VM is running on VirtualBox and the network interface is bridged. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you haven't set the Phone Password. Logging into the user web portal uses the voicemail password. The Phone Password is under Advanced Settings in the extension config.

You can verify that the issue is related to a wrong password by reviewing the Advanced Error Logs. (Diagnostics > Error Log > click the link for Advanced Error Log near the top middle of the screen.)

There are two common error messages you may see in here for SIP Devise registrations:

1. No Matching Peer - This is when a devise is attempting to register to a non-existent extension on the PBX.

2. Wrong Password - There is a valid extension but the password the devise attempted to use for the extension was incorrect.

In the body of these errors you will see the extension number that was attempted and the IP which the traffic was seen over. If you are not seeing any of these error messages after a registration attempt, then it is very likely that the communication is never reaching the PBX and you'll want to focus your efforts on possible network issues.

You could also run a SIP packet capture while a phone is trying to register to see if the communication is reaching the PBX or not.
