Contacts on Digium phones

Postby brucexx » Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:33 am

Does anybody know if you can change the order of contacts on Digium phones ? Currently they appear in alphabetical order which does not necessarily represent the importance of the contact and it can take soem time to actually scroll to important contacts

ADDED:
or maybe there is a trick of how to put the entries into the phonebook - I notices that I cannot change the name of the internel extension but I could put a special character like ' in front of the name - this however puts the contact in front of all other contacts - I need the oposite - I need the extensions to be at the top...

Just start typing the first or last name of the contact or their extension number and the list will search/filter automagically for you. You don't have to choose letters or numbers, its smart enough to know what you want.

For me, the list being in alphabetical order or not doesn't wholly matter because of how easily I can search.

If I have someone that I dial frequently, I put them on a function key on my D50 or D70 and order them appropriately there.

That is what I do too but it is for transferring directly to VM - you cannot do this with with BLF. You need to go to contacts and select contact to transfer directly to VM.

This all would not be such a big deal if we were working on new installs but we are doing 3Com-to-Digium system replacements and on 3Com it is very easy... so I am looking for ways to make it less painful for end users. The less buttons you have to press the better for the end user. If I were to press digits/letters to look for extension I could just use feature code which would be faster in the end than using "contacts" option. I think this is what I will sugest anyway to use feature code.

How can we switch it to type symbols instead numbers?

NLI, you shouldn't need to. The system is smart enough to know when you type in, for example: 8378 - that you could be searching for extension 8378 (and it will show that persons name) or the word "TEST" and will show their result.

Now, if you're asking about how to type something like an apostrophe ( ' ) , I'm not sure there's a way to do that - yet. I just tried searching for a name, like "O'Shea" and the system didn't know how to accurately find the contact. If I knew their extension number, it pulled up fine. If I search their first name, the record pulled up okay

I'm looking into this further...

Spoke to my contacts at Digium. The hyphen and apostrophe searches are indeed not quite working as expected at this time. They agree it should be on the roadmap, though. Maybe soon we'll see a fix.

For the time being, looks like you'll need to search for first name or last name up to the special character.
