Cant get the Time to update in a Polycom IP501

Postby sfajustin » Thu Jul 23, 2009 11:59 am

For some reason, the Time is not working. We have an Aastra phone and a handful of 330's and they all work. For whatever reason, the time on the 501 will not update. The time server is set correctly in the phone settings.

Anyone have anything I can look at?

Nevermind. I got it to work. I replaced the domain name with the IP for the Time Server in the phone and it came up. Must be a DNS issue that the phone couldnt find the domain.

Another suggestion for anyone else having this problem.

Sounds like the solution sfajustin mentioned works just fine but here is another suggestion if you are having this problem.

Just go into the phones Time settings either via the web console or the phone menu and point it to pool.ntp.org. Make sure you have your GMT offset right. The switchvox acts as the time server for the phones but ntp.org will provide the same information if your phone fails to get this information from your SV.

This was a suggestion I got from SV support and it worked great.

Jakel

That is what I originally had the 501 configured with. All my other 330's work perfectly with pool.ntp.org, but the 501 did not, so I found the IP for a public time server and used that (I dont remember now if I used P=pool.npt.org or another one). Not sure why the 501 wasnt able to resolve pool.ntp.org to begin with. Strange.

And another thing, the time kept flashing like an alarm clock does when it loses its power until I changed this setting and got it working.
