Install Hangs

Postby nigelv » Wed Feb 03, 2010 12:12 pm

I have scratched through quite a bit of the topics and can't seem to find one similar to my issue. I boot from CD, get the "welcome" screen and hit ENTER. I select to delete any partitions and install ... works fine, then asks for the time zone where I am ... I select SOUTH AFRICA, JOHANNESBURG .... and on I go. Next I get a progress bar tellint me it is formatting ... the bar then reaches approximately 75% and then hangs - everything on the screen is dead, including pointer. CD drive activates just before this and remains active in spite of the "hang". Only way out is to restart the machine.
Any ideas?

Sound a Hard Disk problem. Try with default partition scheme. If hangs again replace your HD or perform a fsck on it

Have also tried another brand new 1Tb drive .. same thing happens. Could it be some sort of corruption in the ISO file?

Hi What make of server, This was an issue with some live install/server combinations, Try with it disconnected from the network. Sounds odd but that was a work around.

The machine I'm using has a genuine Intel Motherboard, 2Gb RAM, Core-2 Duo processor. It just sits on my local network with two printers attached - so is essentially a spare machine not performing any tasks at all. I simply disconnected the 500Gb drive with Win XP Pro and installed a fresh 500Gb drive and then booted from the Image disk and ended up with the problems described in previous posts. Regards, Nigel

Hi Ian, all that appears is the window showing the formatting progress bar, and then it just hangs. The orbiting blocks behind the curser just stop dead, mouse won't move .... Nigel

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem, and subsequently found a solution, but I am experiencing the same issue. I am trying to install AsteriskNOW 2.0 and it gets to "Formatting the partition". The progress bar goes to about 40%, then just hangs. Nothing else happens. I have tried it a couple of times and once or twice let it sit at least an hour (probably closer to two). I have also tried the already suggested, remove from network, without success.

My next plan of action is to use a live CD (lubuntu for example) and try it's partition tool. However, if anyone has a better suggestion before I do that (it'll be Monday when I try) I would like to hear.

Supermicro motherboard MBD-X8DTL-iF-O
2x Intel Xeon 5606
16GB Registered Kingston RAM
2x Seagate 1.5TB in RAID-1 (Intel controller)
Matrox integrated video

I'm installing AsteriskNOW 2.0. I have used the same CD to install sucessfully on a test computer (low specs).

I was able to figure out that I had a bad HDD. Once I got that resolved, everything installed correctly.

I'm not sure if this will help everyone that has the formatting issue, but at least check your drives to make sure there isn't anything wrong with those.
