GrandStream GXP 2100 with Switchvox?

Postby nickmind » Thu Sep 15, 2011 7:59 pm

Hello all,

The price of Polycoms, and Provisioning Tokens drives the price high if you need a large amount of phones. So I am also looking into other possible solutions. One that was brought to me was to use GrandStream phones, and specifically GXP 2100.

So I have to ask, does anyone have GrandStream phones working well with a switchvox?
GXP 2100 users, do you like them? Do they work well with Switchvox?
Any issues and configuration concerns I need to know about?

Thanks for your time and help,
Nick

If they are a SIP standard compliant phone they probably work as well as any phone when you don't have the polycom feature pack. It makes calls, receives calls, etc. Honestly, if you can live without some of the fancy features like the switchboard and IVR interface, you might as well use Elastix or something instead of switchvox if you are not using feature packs and polycom phones. Half of the convenience and features of the system are bound up in the feature packs, which is really frustrating since you have to pay extra for them. It's like, you buy the phone system, and then you buy the phone system.

I've used grandstream products for years now with Switchvox. The phones can easily be configured through the web browser, or you can get ambitious and set up a provisioning server as well. If you're not planning on using POE, then buy extra power supplies! The grandstream power supplies go out regularly. Often times when a power supply goes bad, the lights on your phone still come on, but the phone doesn't work. A lot of folks think that it's the phone that has gone bad, but a quick (and inexpensive) replacement of the power supply almost always "fixes" the phone.
