IP Telephony Setup

Postby SnowLeopardCub » Sun Nov 27, 2011 7:57 am

I want to setup VoIP infrastructure that'll enable me to call mobile phones and landline phones from PC. I don't way to use Skype or any other such services but want to create one on my own. I am planning to use it in my personal network of about 10 friends so that we can call each other for free.

So, I want to know what setup I'll need?

You just need a features server such as Asterisk, a softphone, and connectivity to a voip provider that will allow you to do such things.

Get a PC, learn how to install AsteriskNOW, setup the sip.conf and extensions.conf, find a voip provider like voip.ms if you want a real phone number, then install x-lite on each of the computers and register them in the sip.conf above. Free calling!

Good luck, come back with questions :)
