Can it support T.38?

Hi everyone,

I am new to Asterisk and evaluating this.

Can free fax for asterisk work with T.38 PRI isdn line? I think it uses G711 u-law and a-law.

No, Free Fax for Asterisk does not provide T.38 Gateway functionality.

i believe fax for asterisk support G711 u-law and a-law. I don't think it is reliable to use G711. Is there any way to make it a reliable fax? or should I consider hylafax instead?

T.38 isn't something that's put across an ISDN line. T.38 is used for transmission of faxes across data networks - arguably you can setup bearers in data mode but I don't think that's what you were getting at.

Do a two-step process then - first receive the fax, then send it out again to a T.38 capable destination, using Free Fax for Asterisk.

a) are you referring to inbound faxing alone?

b) how do i ensure 100% reliable fax messages? say if my customers send my faxes, I need to make sure it will reach 100% of the time (assume there's concurrent channels for them to fax in - no busy tones, etc). R.711 u-law and a-law can cater this?

c) if i first receive the fax (users -> fax via pstn -> receive via my isdn), then send it out again to T.38? Hmm? mind to illustrate further on this? Do i need gateway or something to get this working?
