[RESOLVED]do not upgrade to 5.5 if you record calls on phone

Postby coecpa » Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:05 pm

We will occasionally record calls by pressing the Record Call button in the App, using our Polycom IP560 phones - worked great until I upgraded over the weekend.

Got the following response from tech support:

Thank you for contacting Switchvox Support. Concerning the issue you are seeing, using the record call app on the phone is unfortunately an unsupported feature. Because of the updates to how Switchvox checks the status pf an extension in 5.5, you may need to do a full server reboot to ensure the new modules are properly loaded, as well as reboot the phones to make sure they are properly communicating with the new update.

Well - now what worked great and seeing all of the things fixed in 5.5, I thought I should upgrade. Now I will begin asking "what did you take out..."

When you try and record a call using the buttons on the phone to run the Phone App, on the phone you get the message "Errors Encountered: Missing the db parameter. You are not currently on any calls." - even though I am definitely on a call.

Can anyone else shed some light on what is wrong. I also stumbled over a PDF that said 5.5 was primarily to support Digium phones - so proceed to 5.5 with caution.

I don't think Digium has ever supported the use of a record button on any phone specifically.

I'm curious, if you want to record calls why not setup a call recording rule in your Admin? Or if you don't need all calls recorded, why not use Switchboard to begin a user initiated recording instead?

It has worked on demand flawlessly for 2 years on the phones. It was one of the features in the feature packs I believe.

You could use the Switchboard - but that is just one more thing to have running on your desktop - and who wants more running? We do not want to record all calls. This feature was great - press one button when you felt the need and the call was recorded.

Now when you press the key it throws the error mentioned in the first post - acting like you are not even on a phone call.

Thanks,
Charles

Josh, digium lists call recording as one of the features of the phone feature pack. See here http://www1.digium.com/en/products/switchvox/systems/switchvox-phone-feature-packs It's the fourth feature listed on the page

So they do... I never noticed that. Sorry for the mis-information.

Why not use the In-Call Menu...press ** to activate the In-Call Menu, then # for further features, then 3 to start recording.
No need to wait, when on a call, just press **#3 to start recording, and **#3 again to stop recording.

I haven't tried this with 5.5 yet, but have been doing it since 5.x

it looks like support misinterpreted your complaint. Tell them that you are using the record calls button in the microbrowser provided by the phone token for polycom and getting an error. Try restarting the phone you are using also.

There is also a way to take screenshots from a polycom phone, but I don't know if it is supported using tokens.

For clarification on this thread:

There was an issue in 5.5 with using the record link in the microbrowser of Polycom phones. Recording calls using Recording Rules, Switchboard, or ICM were not affected.

This issue has been resolved in the 5.5.1 release which is now available.

Apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I have updated the message subject with resolved.

RESOLUTION CONFIRMED! Thank you for fixing this and the Q issue also. I have upgraded to 5.5.1 and tested this, and the Microbrowser Record function is now working.

I appreciate the fix on this.

Unfortunately the 5.5.1 update has been pulled due to some huge bug that caused phones to stop working or something like that.

I don't have anyone that used the record feature on the phone directly but I was using a sort of record all calls schedule in the Call Recording section to record all calls over a certain length for most extensions. It stopped working after the update to 5.5 and is now sort of stuck. It doesn't record any calls but I can't remove it from the list of recording schedules. I can edit it but it doesn't do anything anyway. It worries me that it might be causing a problem on the system since my system load has increased a lot since the 5.5 update.
