Call Log Search

Hi All.
How do you know how many records are in the call log BEFORE you call "switchvox.callLogs.search" ?
This is really handy to know so you can say pass this value into the "items_per_page" parameter.
Anyone know a trick I can use? The problem i have is, I want to do a bulk download of the call data, but I dont know how many pages or items there are until I do a "switchvox.callLogs.search".

Any help appreciated.

I choose a date range and set items_per_page to 50,000, and deal with the volume in my script... that way I get everything all at once (I also limit the date range to a subset that shouldn't return more than 50,000 items).
